Radio Technology Built for the New Space and Defense Industry

Apsis Science and Technology develops advanced radio communication products and engineering solutions for space and defense.

Built on more than a decade of experience designing, launching, and operating commercial satellite systems, Apsis brings a faster, more practical approach to aerospace engineering — without compromising mission reliability.

Space-Grade Technology. Commercial-Scale Thinking.

The space industry has changed.

Satellite programs that once built a handful of spacecraft over a decade are giving way to commercial constellations built and launched at unprecedented scale. Defense programs are facing similar pressure to move faster, adopt commercial technology, and deploy new capabilities without traditional aerospace timelines and costs.

The hardware supporting those missions needs to change with them.

Apsis develops radio communication technology for organizations building the next generation of space and defense systems.

Our focus spans three core areas:

Radio Communication Technologies

Space-qualified radios and communications products designed for high performance, flexibility, and constellation-scale deployment.

RF Systems Engineering

End-to-end radio frequency system design, analysis, prototyping, and integration for demanding space and defense applications.

A Careful COTS Approach to Space

Space hardware does not need to be unnecessarily expensive to be reliable.

Apsis takes a Careful COTS approach to product development: thoughtfully applying modern commercial components, engineering practices, and manufacturing techniques to build hardware that can meet the demands of the space environment.

The result is technology designed around the realities of modern satellite programs:

  • Built for constellation scale

  • Designed for manufacturability

  • Engineered for demanding space environments

  • Cost-effective without treating reliability as an afterthought

  • Flexible enough to meet real mission requirements

We believe good engineering is about understanding where complexity is necessary — and where it isn't.

Engineering Around the Mission, Not the Other Way Around

Aerospace suppliers have a reputation for being difficult to work with.

Long lead times. Rigid product configurations. Expensive customization. And technology roadmaps driven more by internal priorities than customer missions.

We built Apsis differently.

Our starting point is the customer's mission.

We work closely with engineering teams to understand what they are trying to accomplish, where their real technical risks are, and how we can help solve them.

Sometimes the answer is one of our products. Sometimes it requires modifying one. Sometimes it means developing something new.

The objective is the same: deliver the right technology for the mission.

Built by People Who Have Done It Before

Apsis was founded in Montreal by Eric Haengel, an aerospace engineer with more than 13 years of experience developing advanced systems for the commercial space and defense industries.

Before founding Apsis, Eric spent approximately eight years helping build HawkEye 360 from an early-stage startup into one of the commercial small-satellite industry's success stories, most recently leading its Space & Ground Systems organization.

That experience included building real spacecraft, growing engineering organizations, developing satellite constellations, and operating systems in orbit.

Apsis was founded around a simple observation from that experience:

The rapidly growing commercial space industry needs better radio products — designed for the way modern satellite companies actually build spacecraft.

We're starting there and applying the same technology, engineering discipline, and commercial mindset to emerging challenges across the defense industry.

From Individual Missions to Constellations

Whether you're developing a spacecraft, designing a communications payload, integrating an RF system, or building a new defense capability, Apsis can help turn requirements into working hardware.

We combine deep RF and spacecraft expertise with the responsiveness of a small, focused engineering team.

No unnecessary complexity, no one-size-fits-all solutions, no forgetting who the technology is being built for.
